Stripes are Solid

I'm coming off a couple weeks of travel, vacation, family, work and seeing lots of new things, and I am exhausted and ready for the weekend! I was able to visit New York City for the first time to see some trend and color forecasting shows for work, and the week before that, spent time away from technology, phone and internet at our family annual reunion week in Canada. Unfortunately, that time away from phone extended into New York as I ended up losing my phone the second day to the big city. While it was a bit disappointing, it didn't stop me from enjoying and seeing so much in NYC.

Coming back home, I have a lot on my plate, and lots to look forward to - there is so much I have to share! But here is a post I took before my time away - it seems like we're already cooling down into fall temperatures here in Michigan, but there were a few steamy days this past July.

I'm not one to normally wear shorts; I'd rather be wearing a fun dress or skirt, so this outfit is a bit unusual for me. What I love about this outfit is the stripes mixed with the patterned shorts. When putting pieces together to create an outfit I love stripes, because stripes are the new solid, and can be paired with virtually anything. Which is probably why I have like ten striped shirts in my closet.. A classic navy and cream, thick or thin, striped shirt is a great update to your wardrobe and highly recommended! I'm sure you'll see lots on here in the future:)

Shorts and shirt were made by me - the shorts were a Buttrick pattern, but the shirt in my own pattern that I hope to share with you!
